A big-time traveler like I am knows that using a single carry-on bag or suitcase is best for travels. Why? There a lot of perks with using one carry-on bag in the stead of two or more bags.
First is that it saves you the extra dollar you would spend to check multiple luggage.
Second, there is no lost-luggage scenario because you are with just a carry-on bag. It is easier to lose a suitcase when you are travelling with five than when you have just a carry-on bag on board.
Third, you do not have to waste much time waiting for your five bags to come out. Once you get hold of your carry-on bag, you are good to go.
Fourth, it is way less stressful dragging one carry-on bag than struggling with five of such bags.
Now, you are bought, leading us to the big question – How do I pack my life into a carry-on bag?
It might seem like a lot of hassle but it is not impossible. In fact, it is very much possible to pack 3 months of your life into a carry-on bag. Yes, you read right! Three months! But it all boils down to planning. Not just planning but a well-structured plan.
Here are some tips to help you pack your life into a single carry-on bag.
1. Choose the Right Bag
The first and most important step is choosing the right bag. While you would want a big bag that can contain all your travel necessities, be sure to purchase one that fits with the terms of your travel partner or airline. It is of no use packing a very big bag that you can’t come on board with on the plane. It is safe to check the official website of your airline for the largest bag size they allow on board. Also, make sure you get a compressible bag with lots of pockets that will allow you to squeeze in little items like socks and panties.
2. Draft a Plan of Your Travel-Essentials
This is not the time to pack unnecessary clothing, shoes or accessories. To avoid packing unnecessary item, make a list of your travel essentials such as clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. You can try the clothes on and try matching them before packing them. This helps you pack fewer clothes that will serve the right purpose.
3. Roll Them Up
You must have noticed that you pack more items when you roll your clothes up. It’s true! Give it a try on your next travel. Roll all your clothing up; your socks and underwear inclusive.
1. Put-On Your Biggest Clothes
Okay, common sense shows that your biggest clothes will take up more space. So, put them on! That way you create space for other items.
2. Pack According to the Weather Condition
It might be summer in your state but winter in your destination state. Instead of packing for all kinds of weather, which will warrant using more than one bag, make sure you know the weather condition in your destination state and pack according to the weather.
3. Pack the Light-Weight Items First
I have noticed that packing my loose items like socks, underwear, and light-weight clothes at the bottom of my carry-on bag provides more room for bigger items. You can try it too. Also, this helps to eliminate any embarrassing moment should TSA open up your carry-on bag. You wouldn’t want your panties exposed to everyone there, right?
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that you should draft a good packing plan before travel. That way you can fit in even three months of your life into a carry-on bag. Yes, you do not need those extra bags. You just need to know what and how to pack. I hope you find these tips helpful. Bon voyage!
