No one does Days of the Dead celebrations quite like we do at Sandos Caracol. This year it takes place between October the 31st until November 2nd. There are three jam packed days full of fun. This is not only a celebration, but it can be a learning experience for anyone who is new to the ritual. Every person walks away with a new appreciation for life along with a different way of honoring the deceased.
All of our scheduled events are family friendly and that means you can bring along everyone. Even the smallest children will have a total blast when they paint their face. Young and old alike will be educated on how our ancestors honored their dead. This is a tradition that’s ingrained into our culture and who we are as a people. It’s something we love to share with each and every one of our guests.
Each of the three days will have activities that are different. You’re free to join us each of the days and celebrate. You’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the local arts and crafts scene. There will even be a parade and plenty of music. We didn’t forget the food. Each day we’ll serve up dishes that are traditionally eaten during this time. It’s important to realize that you’re celebrating this right along side us. You’ll feel like you’re a local when you partake in the same exact festivities as everyone else.
The takeaway from this festival is that life is worth celebrating. We should honor those who come before us by making sure no one forgets about them. Each of our guests will walk away with a different and unique view of life. It’s only when we celebrate those who are no longer here that we understand what life is about. It connects us with our past and guides us into the future. This is what the celebration means to those of us who call this place home. It’s about honoring those who have shaped and molded us into the people we are.
During the Days of the Dead celebration no guest ever leaves the same person they were. Our society is rich culturally and there are many things that can be learned by it. An appreciation of those who have come before us is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s about understanding that generations far into the future will someday celebrate the achievements of those who are here today. This in a nutshell is the human experience and it’s what must be passed along from one generation to the next.
All seriousness aside, this is just about having some fun. Eating good food, listening to great music, and enjoying vibrantly colored decorations. It doesn’t matter if you celebrate the Days of the Dead where you live. You’ll celebrate it each and every year from now on. It’ll remain an important part of your life and you’ll always think about to the experience you had with us. That’s what traveling and living among other cultures is all about. It’s why you travel and set aside time from your busy schedule to do so.
